CARPET INSTALLATION TOOLS

Carpet Installation Tools

Measure a room for a carpet stretcher

Start with the installation method, then measure the working span and the width of the wall or doorway that will support the stretcher.

Confirm the installation method

The Carpet and Rug Institute distinguishes power stretching across the room from positioning along tack strip with a knee kicker. Use the carpet manufacturer's instructions for the specific head and stretch-in procedure.

Measure both directions that matter

Measure along the span between the carpet head and its opposite support. Then measure across the support itself, including a doorway if relevant. A wide tailblock and a long tube setup solve different problems.

Read the standard and value kit contents

Compare the number and length of supplied tubes and whether the cases can carry them together. The 10-284V includes three more 3 ft extensions than the 10-284. Select a separate head only after checking the host model.

Guide questions

Can I choose by the tailblock width alone?

No. Compare the separate room-span reach.

Is a knee kicker a full-room substitute?

CRI assigns it to local placement in a sequence that also uses a power stretcher.

When does the value kit help?

It adds reach and a tube case when you need the longer setup.

Which accessory suits the job?

  1. The Falcon 10-284 reaches up to 23½ ft. The 10-284V adds three 3 ft tubes for up to 38 ft and supplies the tube case. Both support the wide Falcon tailblock.

  2. The 10-412-2 starts at 17 in for local positioning. The wider Crain 525 starts at 21 in. Compare clearance behind the bumper and contact at the head.
