Choosing carpet knee kickers

Measure behind the bumper

An adjustable handle has a minimum working length as well as a maximum. Measure behind the bumper where you need to use it, especially at a closet return or the top of a stair. A raised neck helps the kicker pass over stretcher parts, while a wide head needs room to sit flat.

Choose pin engagement by carpet construction

Look at the head width, pin adjustment and nap-grip inserts separately. Check the pile and backing instructions before choosing the setting. Use a lever power stretcher where the installation requires room-span tension.

Department questions

Which length should I compare first?

Compare the minimum length if you are working in a confined area.

Do wider heads always fit better?

A wider head contacts more carpet but may not fit beside trim or a return.

Where does a knee kicker fit in stretch-in work?

CRI shows it positioning carpet along the tack strip, alongside separate power-stretcher steps.
