Choose a carpet seam roller by pile and tape

Choose the contact profile from the carpet instructions, then check the head width, handle and tape needed for the seam.

Read the pile and joining method first

Specific roller models document different contacts. The ROBERTS 10-122 is a star-wheel model for loop pile. The smooth 10-124 is documented for cut pile and Saxony. Confirm the instructions for the carpet and joining material you are using.

Compare working width to access

Check the space at the ends of the run and the head width across the tape. A narrow roller may be easier to position near trim. A wide roller can cover a larger section if the work area permits it.

Check what the offer actually supplies

A roller bundle might include joining tape or a second identical tool. Check the tape width and length separately and confirm it is appropriate for the backing. Choose the knife independently when the pack contains only a roller and tape.

Guide questions

Is five inches the tape width?

Only if the listing labels it that way. Roller width and tape width are separate.

Are all stars suitable for every carpet?

Use the carpet maker's instructions to select contact.

Does two-pack mean two profiles?

Some packs contain two copies of the same head. Verify both items in the offer.

Which accessory suits the job?

  1. The ROBERTS 10-122 and 10-124 both have six-inch heads. The first uses stars for documented loop-pile work. The second uses smooth wheels for documented cut-pile work.

  2. The Bon 86-102 two-pack provides two matching 3½ in rollers. The QWORK kit gives one wider roller and a roll of tape. Check whether the second tool or the tape is useful.
